   I’d like to take this time to thank each and every one of our members for their patience and support the past year. To the ones that contributed to the newsletter goes our gratitude and appreciation. In the past year we have launched our “mother site” Shared Ancestors, a wonderful and informative monthly newsletter, and a great genealogy blogging site – we couldn’t have accomplished so much without you!

   In the next few days we will be unveiling a newly updated Shared Ancestors. It will offer a state-of-the-art secure environment in which to upload your genealogy material and info, improved features and navigation with new features added over the next few weeks, and a fresh new look! We have worked hard to bring you, our members, the best online genealogy experience we can and we hope you enjoy all that Shared Ancestors and GeneaBlogs have to offer.

   The December 2009 newsletter will be arriving in your inbox soon and features some great Christmas gift-giving tips, a whimsical look at the census, seasonal recipes, and much more! We hope you enjoy it and please pass it along to your family and friends.

   Also, if you haven’t already check out Courtney’s Den, a nice blog authored by an up and coming journalism student. Please stop by and take a look at this talented author; there are many interesting stories, interviews, articles, and photos and you will be supporting a fine young person! You can find a link to her site on the right column!

There’s a new look for Shared Ancestors on the horizon. So keep checking back often as an updated site with a fresh new look is coming soon!

We are currently upgrading Shared Ancestors. This is a new system installation and conversion. The new system has been installed and we are currently performing some conversions and updates. Members may experience some short, intermittent outages of the web site during the next few days so please be patient! We will be announcing details of the upgrade along with new features this will offer our members so stay tuned!

   Our November 2009 newsletter, a special holiday edition, has been sent to members and is now posted online. It includes articles, family profiles, and some traditional (as well as not-so-traditional!) family recipes. And in honor of Veteran’s Day we have a special article on Audie Murphy, America’s most decorated WWII combat soldier, as well as memorials to those family members and ancestors that have served their country. GeneaBlogs and Shared Ancestors honor and thank all of the veterans – past, present, and current military personnel – for their unselfish service.

   This is probably our best newsletter yet so please read it and pass it along to family and friends!

COMING SOON: please be on the lookout for an “instruction sheet” on how to put your family tree online at Shared Ancestors. We plan to have this completed and emailed to you soon so watch your email for it!

PEN & PROSE: enter family writings, etc here. For example, member Christie has written poetry and she has submitted some it here and the admin has submitted some current writings of her daughter, some ancestors writings, and etc.

GENEABLOGS is our sister site and offers free blogs to all our members. Sign up for your free blog today! We suggest using the same “member ID” and password you use on Shared Ancestors when signing up.

FORUM: works like any forum – ask a question, post brick walls or new info you have found, etc.

DOWNLOADS: mainly files of transcripts, articles, bible entries, etc. Some programs and forms too.

MEMBER PAGES: create your own personal page here.

GENEALBUM: create your own photo albums here – no limit

WEB LINKS: a list with link of some of the best genealogy sites on the web

SEARCH: enhanced search box for a search of our web site or the internet

Members don’t forget:

Our November newsletter, besides having a Thanksgiving theme, will include a memorial to members’ family veterans. If you would like to have an ancestor or a current family member included then please send us the info:

Your memorial can include ancestors, family members living or dead, those currently serving, etc. All member requests will be honored and included. We ask that you include, as a minimum, the name of your honoree and what war or conflict they served (or are serving)in. However, you are not limited to just this info nor are you limited to just one submission. If desired, you may also include:

* photo of veteran
* dates of birth (and death if applicable)
* relationship
* any wounds, medals, citations, etc
* pertinent details related to their service
* a short message with “signature” (ex: “We miss you Grandpa… Jan, Dave, and Rory”, etc)

Please include the above in an email, attach any photo, and email to: admin@sharedancestors.com by October 25th. Our plan is to have the Newsletter completed and emailed to members by October 31st.

Also, if you have any old family Thanksgiving recipes and want them included then please either go to the Family Recipes section on the web site and add them or email them to the Admin email address given above! Let’s make the November newsletter the best ever!

Shared Ancestors is proud to announce our first newsletter! Our newsletters will cover the latest news for the website, including our companion sites GeneaBlogs, Family Recipes, and Pen & Prose. Each issue will bring you genealogy articles, tips and tricks, our most popular family recipes and Pen & Prose submissions, and will showcase member contributions. Please feel free to email this newsletter to any family and friends that you think will enjoy it. We welcome your submissions to the Newsletter and are currently soliciting for our September issue.
